Smile like you mean it

Remember when you would come home, rummage through your backpack, find and hand over a piece of paper announcing Picture Day at school? And all the anxious, butterflies-in-stomach anticipation that followed? What about when the day finally arrived and you were placed, usually by height, in a row in front of some stadium steps with your fellow classmates and asked to look at the photographer - that you’ve never met - and say cheese as soon as the count hit one, two and finally three? Do you also remember as soon as your class picture came home in that same backpack that there was always one, if not more, that inevitably didn’t smile like they meant it on three and are looking off into the great beyond? Yeah.  We were all there.

Well. Fast forward to your wedding day and the old familiar butterflies-in-stomach feeling of anticipation as it’s announced that it’s picture time. Only this time, you know that there aren’t going to be any great beyonders here. Oh no. Because you’ve gone ahead and already carefully and comfortably met with and chosen your Vancouver wedding photographer that knows the importance of just-right timing , luminous lighting, and the art of capturing the genuine grin.Which, of course, also inevitably ends in Vancouver wedding photography proof with pictures upon pictures full of nothing but smiles like they mean(t) it .

Taken near Downtown Vancouver a few weeks ago, these may be some of my favorite images of all time. WHat’s prettier than a girl with a horse? Not much.

Yellow bridesmaid dresses from a Vancouver Wedding

W

eddings used to be boring. Brides would be decked out in the typical unexciting white frock and thick veil, and bridesmaids would be condemned to wear the most unappealing, tawdry garments. Bridesmaids did this, willingly, in order to support the bride on her big day. They agreed to look terrible so that she, in all of her snowy glory, would look better than ever.

But luckily, things are changing. Brides have come to realize that maybe if they let their bridesmaids look good, that will make her look even better. Because of this incredible new development, bridesmaid dresses have begun to take on a whole new vibrant meaning. They’re starting to involve intense patterns, bright colors, and pretty bows. In fact, recent trends have been popping up where brides have been wearing skirts. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true.

The fact of the matter is that bridesmaids are a living, breathing wedding accessory that add life and color to any wedding. Wedding gowns have adapted to fit a variety of personalities and unique tastes, and wearing the awful bird cage veil is no longer an absolute necessity (thank goodness); and bridesmaids dresses have transformed right alongside this development. Ultimately, the dynamic styles worn by bridesmaids make the whole wedding event look even more spectacular, including the bride, because she is at the center of the festivities.

So, for those bridesmaids who are apprehensive about saying yes to being in the wedding of a close friend, because of the terrible dress that tends to come along with such a commitment. Rest your mind at ease. New trends prove that when you stand up next to the bride on the day of her wedding, and she looks fantastic, you will too.

Vancouver event photographer

I was fortunate enough to be selected to be the event photographer for Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s 30th Anniversary Gala! What an amazing night, with some very distinguished awards being handed out! The awards were held at the amazing River Rock Show Theater and were hosted by the one and only (and very funny) Kuljeet Kaila.  Thanks so much to everyone, including the wonderful ladies at Eventful Planners who made it all happen!
